Beginning January 15, Netflix users in the U.S., German-speaking countries, France, Latin America, and other territories will be able to stream four Bond films for a limited three-month window. The titles include:
• No Time to Die
• Skyfall
• Quantum of Solace
• Die Another Day
The deal is unexpected because Amazon MGM Studios owns the James Bond library, and Amazon is a direct competitor to Netflix in the streaming space. Still, Amazon has chosen to license parts of its film catalog to other platforms.
Alongside the Bond films, Netflix will also stream select “Rocky” and “Creed” movies, as well as the “Legally Blonde” films, all of which are owned by Amazon MGM. Amazon’s original series “Hunters” is already available on Netflix in the U.S. and several other regions, with “The Man in the High Castle” and more Amazon series set to follow.
Chris Ottinger, Head of Worldwide Distribution at Amazon MGM Studios, explained the strategy, saying that Amazon has always planned to continue licensing MGM’s iconic library to partners worldwide. He added that James Bond remains one of the most influential franchises in film history and that the deal reflects strong global demand and a solid working relationship with Netflix.
Traditionally, Bond movies stream on Prime Video for about two months each year around Bond Day in October, and they also air on MGM+ from October through December. The Netflix deal helps keep the franchise in the spotlight while fans wait for the next chapter.
The 26th James Bond movie is currently in development, with Denis Villeneuve attached as director. While the director is confirmed, the release date is still far off, with expectations pointing to around 2028.
For now, Netflix viewers can shake — and stir — their watchlists as 007 makes his temporary return to the streaming giant.
