Tara Reid Speaks Out After Police Close Drugging Investigation, Calls Experience “Heartbreaking”

Tara Reid has broken her silence after police officially closed their investigation into her claim that she was drugged at a Chicago-area hotel, calling the entire experience “truly heartbreaking” and emotionally damaging.

The Rosemont Police Department in Illinois confirmed that the case was closed on Dec. 11 after investigators found no new evidence to support the allegation. A police spokesperson said officers had already spoken to everyone involved and reviewed available surveillance footage, adding that there was “nothing outstanding” left to investigate.

“We don’t want to say what she’s claiming is false,” the spokesperson said, noting that there were short periods not captured on surveillance cameras. However, police said the evidence they reviewed did not show proof of drugging. “That’s all we can do,” the spokesperson added.

Reid, 50, was taken to a hospital on a stretcher on Nov. 23 after becoming incapacitated while staying at the DoubleTree Chicago O’Hare Airport–Rosemont hotel. She previously told police that the last thing she remembered was having one drink before waking up in the hospital the next day with no memory of what happened.

In a statement, the American Pie actress said the public reaction since the incident has taken a toll on her mental health. “All of the bullying I have been subjected to since and everyone twisting reality without the facts they weren’t even there to witness is truly affecting my mental health and I need it to stop,” she said.

Police stated on Dec. 3 that surveillance footage from the hotel bar did not show anyone tampering with or adding anything to Reid’s drink. They confirmed that a bartender covered her drink when she briefly left the bar, calling it standard practice.

Reid has disputed how the footage has been interpreted. She claimed that 33 minutes of video are unaccounted for and said the footage does not show her drinking excessively. “They are making it seem like I chugged all this wine at once and ended up on a stretcher, but after reviewing the footage that is not what happened at all,” she said. According to Reid, she only took one sip of wine over more than 30 minutes and declined another drink.

Audio from a 911 call released by police on Dec. 4 paints a troubling picture of the night. In the recording, a hotel staff member told the dispatcher that Reid could “barely stand” and was not responding clearly. Reid’s slurred voice can be heard in the background. Her representative later questioned the criticism surrounding the audio, saying, “If you had been drugged would you not also sound this way?”

Reid also expressed disappointment with her hospital care, claiming she was not given a blood alcohol content test and did not receive an IV. She said medical records indicate she was confused, screaming for help, and even fell out of her hospital bed around 3 a.m., requiring a CT scan—events she does not remember.

“To imagine how terrifying it would be as a woman having some wine and then waking up in the hospital with no clothes on in a gown after 12 hours not having any idea of what happened to me—only to see videos of the state I was in all over the world,” Reid said. “If you could watch the hour and 21 minutes of video you would understand something obviously wasn’t right.”

Despite the case being closed due to a lack of evidence, police said they would follow up if Reid provides additional information. Reid said she filed a police report because she wanted answers, not to falsely accuse anyone.

She ended her statement by thanking supporters and asking for privacy. “I need to heal,” she said. “I truly hope my story can help save someone.”
