Billie Eilish Calls for Gun Control After Multiple Shootings in the US and Australia

Billie Eilish has spoken out forcefully in support of gun control following a series of violent shootings across the United States and Australia.

The singer-songwriter paid tribute to the victims of three separate attacks: a shooting at a birthday party in Brooklyn, an incident on Brown University’s campus in Providence, and a deadly attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney earlier this week.

In a post shared on her Instagram Story, Eilish highlighted the tragic timing of the events. “Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, & we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, & in Brooklyn,” she wrote. “This is so devastating. My heart goes out to all of the victims & their loved ones.”

She also urged her followers to take action, adding, “Raise your voice, work for change, & vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy.”

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, when a gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children between the ages of six and seven. Exactly 13 years later, similarly violent attacks unfolded in different parts of the world.

At least 15 people were killed at Bondi Beach in Sydney after a gunman opened fire during an Australian Hanukkah celebration. In Brooklyn, New York, six teenagers were shot and wounded at a birthday party. Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for the suspect responsible for killing two people and injuring nine others on Brown University’s campus.

This is not the first time Eilish has used her platform to call for change. In 2023, she appeared alongside several artists in an Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence video advocating for stricter gun laws. She has also repeatedly urged fans to speak out following past mass shootings.

After the deadly attacks in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, in 2019, Eilish shared an emotional message expressing her fear and frustration. “I’m making this video right now to talk about how scared and worried I am about the fucking shootings that have been going on, and how nobody ‘in charge’ is doing anything to change anything at all. I literally can’t stand it,” she said at the time.

She later encouraged fans to help push for reform by texting the word “CHECKS” to 644-33 to connect with the organisation Everytown for Gun Safety.

Once again, Eilish is using her voice to demand action, calling on leaders and citizens alike to push for meaningful changes to gun policy.
