The Game of Thrones star, who spent nearly a decade playing the brooding hero from the North, recently shut down any idea of returning to the role — even in audio form. When asked if he would reprise Jon Snow for an audiobook version of Game of Thrones, Harington didn’t hesitate.
“No, god no,” he said. “I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.”
The question came after Harington recorded the role of Gilderoy Lockhart for Audible’s upcoming Harry Potter audio drama adaptation. But while he’s open to revisiting other fantasy worlds, Westeros is clearly not one of them.
The Jon Snow Spin-off That Never Happened
Although Game of Thrones ended in 2019, George R. R. Martin’s fantasy universe continues to expand. At one point, HBO was developing a Jon Snow spin-off series titled Snow, with Harington deeply involved in shaping the project.
Martin previously confirmed that Harington was working with his own creative team on the series. However, after months of discussions, the project was quietly shelved.
“Currently, it’s off the table,” Harington explained last year. “We all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were excited about enough. So we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being.”
While he didn’t rule out a return entirely, he stressed that the idea is “firmly on the shelf” for now.
A Dark and Heavy Story
At a Game of Thrones fan convention in 2022, Harington shared what the spin-off might have explored. According to him, the story would have focused on Jon Snow living with the emotional weight of his past — including killing Daenerys Targaryen, losing Ygritte, and carrying the guilt of his choices.
In short, it wouldn’t have been a cheerful continuation.
Harington later admitted that sequels are often difficult to pull off, especially when much of the original cast has moved on. “A lot of the cast are done with it by then,” he said, adding that returning simply didn’t make sense without a truly strong story.
Westeros Lives On Without Jon Snow
While Jon Snow’s journey appears to be over, HBO has no plans to slow down the Game of Thrones franchise. The network recently unveiled a long-term, Marvel-style roadmap for Westeros.
• A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on January 18, 2026, and has already been renewed for a second season in 2027.
• House of the Dragon Season 3 arrives in summer 2026, with Season 4 planned for 2028.
So while fans may never see Kit Harington don the black cloak again, the world of Westeros is far from finished — even if Jon Snow’s watch has finally ended.
