FBI Expands Search for Savannah Guthrie’s Mom as Authorities Say She May Still Be Alive

Authorities say they are still searching for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, under the belief that she is alive — nearly two weeks after she disappeared from her Arizona home.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Wednesday, Feb. 11, that investigators continue to operate on the assumption that Nancy, 84, is still alive as the massive search effort stretches into its 11th day.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has expanded its involvement. The agency’s Phoenix field office said in a post on X that numerous agents are conducting an extensive search along multiple roadways in the Catalina Foothills area tied to the investigation.

Nancy was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 after having dinner with her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, and other family members. She was dropped off at her home around 9:48 p.m. Her family reported her missing the next day after she failed to show up for a church livestream gathering with friends.

Authorities believe she was kidnapped in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously revealed that blood discovered on the exterior porch of Nancy’s home matched her DNA, intensifying concerns that she was taken by force.

Armed Suspect Caught on Camera

Earlier this week, investigators released newly uncovered images and video showing what they described as an “armed subject” connected to Nancy’s disappearance.

The images appear to show a person wearing gloves and a face covering while tampering with a security camera at Nancy’s front door on the morning she vanished.

“Working with our partners — as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance,” Nanos said in a statement.

Savannah quickly shared the images with her millions of followers on Instagram, pleading for help.

“We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” she wrote. “Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.”

In a follow-up post featuring video of the suspect, she added, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”

Alleged Ransom Notes

The case has taken additional twists in recent days. Several media outlets have reportedly received alleged ransom notes from individuals claiming to be responsible for Nancy’s disappearance. According to reports, an initial deadline was set for Feb. 5, followed by a second on Feb. 9. Authorities have not publicly confirmed details about the notes.

As the days pass, Savannah and her siblings — Annie and their brother — have continued to share emotional messages online.

In a video posted earlier this week, the Today show anchor thanked supporters for their prayers and expressed faith that her mother can somehow feel the outpouring of love.

“We believe that somehow, someway, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her in this moment and in this darkest place,” she said. “We believe our mom is still out there. We need your help.”

The family has also made a direct appeal to the suspected kidnapper or kidnappers. In one post, they asked for proof of life. In another, shared on Feb. 7, they said simply, “We will pay.”

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement agencies say they are working around the clock to find Nancy and bring her home safely. The FBI continues to urge anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office at 520-351-4900.

For now, investigators and family members alike are holding onto hope — and asking the public to help bring Nancy Guthrie home.
