The rapper kicked off her show Wednesday in Palm Desert, California, and at one point paused the music to address the crowd directly. Standing on an elevated platform while singing “La Cucaracha,” she scanned the audience and asked if there were any Guatemalans or Mexicans in attendance. Cheers erupted from the crowd.
That’s when Cardi turned serious.
“If ICE comes in here, we gon’ jump they asses,” she shouted, drawing loud applause from fans. She doubled down moments later, joking that she had “some bear mace in the back” and adding, “They ain’t taking my fans.”
She then jumped into her hit song I Like It, keeping the energy high as the crowd roared in approval.
Her comments come amid ongoing national debate around immigration enforcement and the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE.
Over the weekend, Cardi also showed support for fellow artist Bad Bunny, who recently spoke out against ICE during an awards show appearance. While accepting a Grammy, Bad Bunny said “ICE out,” a remark that sparked backlash from some conservative figures.
Among those who criticized the comment was President Donald Trump, who has been outspoken on immigration issues.
Cardi, however, praised Bad Bunny for using his platform and said she’s proud to see Latinos standing together.
The outspoken rapper has never shied away from sharing her political views, and her latest comments show she’s still willing to speak her mind — especially when it comes to protecting her fans.
