The 36-year-old co-host of The View and her husband, Justin Griffin, 37, welcomed their first child, son Justin Patrick Griffin Jr., on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
The happy news was announced at the top of Wednesday’s episode of the ABC daytime talk show. A day earlier, co-host Whoopi Goldberg had shared that Alyssa was absent because she had gone into labor.
On Wednesday, Whoopi congratulated the new parents on air and revealed that baby Justin weighed 7 pounds and measured 19½ inches long.
A Long Road to Parenthood
Alyssa first announced her pregnancy in October, sharing that she and Justin — who married in November 2021 — had been trying to conceive for two years. The couple went through five rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF) before finally getting their positive result.
During the process, Alyssa discovered she had endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it. The diagnosis explained some of the difficulties she had faced.
“I went undiagnosed my whole life until I started this process,” she previously shared, adding that the discovery brought both clarity and new challenges.
Throughout it all, Alyssa credited her husband for being her rock. She described him as a constant presence at doctor’s appointments and an unwavering source of support.
Justin, in turn, praised Alyssa’s determination. He said she approached every IVF round with strength and confidence, refusing to give up even when things were tough.
Excited to Be a Boy Mom
When the couple learned they were having a boy, Alyssa said all the sadness and frustration from their fertility journey faded away.
“I’m so excited to be a boy mom,” she said, joking that she’ll be outnumbered at home since the couple already has two male dogs. She added that her fellow female co-hosts at The View would help “balance” things out.
The couple hopes to have two children. Alyssa, who grew up with sisters, has always liked the idea of having an older brother to look out for younger siblings.
Justin understands that bond well. He grew up with a younger brother and described having a “built-in best friend.” He said he looks up to his brother — now a father of two — as well as his own dad, as examples of the kind of father he wants to be.
Time Away From the Hot Topics Table
Alyssa will be stepping away from The View for the next few months as she settles into life with her newborn. Guest hosts are set to fill her seat at the Hot Topics table beginning Feb. 17, including familiar faces like Savannah Chrisley, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Abby Huntsman.
In a previous interview, Alyssa described being a host on The View as one of the toughest — but most rewarding — jobs in television. She said the show thrives on strong opinions, lively debates and dynamic personalities who can discuss everything from politics to pop culture.
Now, Alyssa is taking on what may be her most important role yet: mom.
And by all accounts, baby Justin has already made the Griffins’ world a whole lot brighter.
