If the deal comes together, Stan would reunite on the project with his former Marvel co-star Scarlett Johansson, who recently landed a new role in the film. He would also join Robert Pattinson, who is set to return as Bruce Wayne, aka the Caped Crusader. Reeves is once again writing and directing the sequel.
The film is scheduled to begin production in the spring and is set for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027. DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing alongside Dylan Clark.
Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman marked a major turning point for Warner Bros. following the pandemic. Released after the studio experimented with a day-and-date strategy on HBO Max, the dark reboot proved audiences were ready to return to theaters. The movie, which also starred Zoë Kravitz, earned $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide.
Stan is well known to comic book fans for his decade-long run as Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He most recently reprised the role in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. Outside of superhero films, Stan has also earned critical praise for his dramatic work, including his recent performance as Donald Trump in The Apprentice, which scored him a Best Actor Oscar nomination.
With production gearing up and casting momentum building, The Batman Part II is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched superhero sequels on the horizon.
