Britney Spears Says She’ll Never Perform in the U.S. Again, Teases Shows Abroad

Fans hoping to see Britney Spears perform in the United States may be out of luck for good.

In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, January 8, the 44-year-old singer made it clear that she has no plans to return to the American stage. Alongside a throwback photo of herself sitting at a piano during a past performance, Spears opened up about her relationship with music, dancing, and healing.

“Sending this piano to my son this year!!!” she wrote. Spears explained that dancing on Instagram helps her heal parts of her body and life that most people don’t see. She admitted it can feel embarrassing at times, but said she’s “walked through the fire” to save her life.

While shutting the door on U.S. performances, Spears hinted that fans overseas might still get a chance to see her live.

“I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons,” she wrote, before adding that she hopes to perform in the U.K. and Australia in the future. She even painted a picture of what that might look like — sitting on a stool, wearing a red rose in her hair, and performing alongside her son.

Spears did not say which son she meant, but she shares two children — Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20 — with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

The singer has previously spoken proudly about Jayden, calling him a “genius” in a March 2025 Instagram post that showed him playing the piano. “I’m in awe of him,” she wrote at the time. “I can’t believe he’s mine!!!”

The mother-son bond was on display again during the holidays. Jayden spent Christmas with Spears in California, while Preston celebrated with the family in Louisiana. A source said the time together was special, adding that Spears and Jayden laughed a lot and grew closer.

Before stepping away from the stage, Spears was a constant presence in live entertainment. From 2013 to 2017, she headlined her hugely successful Las Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me. She was scheduled to return with a second residency, Domination, in 2019, but canceled it before opening night.

At the time, Spears said she needed to focus on her family. Her father, Jamie Spears, had suffered a serious medical emergency and was hospitalized after his colon ruptured, requiring surgery and a lengthy recovery.

That period also overlapped with growing tension surrounding Spears’ conservatorship. In a 2020 court hearing, she said she was afraid of her father and made it clear she would not perform while he remained in control of her career.

Spears’ conservatorship officially ended in November 2021, marking a major turning point in her life. Now, with her focus on healing, family, and personal freedom, she appears content leaving U.S. stages behind — even as she keeps the possibility of international performances alive.

For now, fans can only wait and watch as Britney Spears writes the next chapter of her story, on her own terms.
