The animated sequel is now the highest-grossing movie ever released by Walt Disney Animation, pulling in an astonishing $1.46 billion worldwide. That figure nudges past the previous record holder, Frozen 2, which earned $1.45 billion back in 2019.
The numbers tell a clear story of global dominance. The film has made $333 million in North America and a massive $1.13 billion overseas. Even in its fifth week in theaters, the movie showed no signs of slowing down, adding $87.9 million over the Christmas holiday weekend alone.
“Zootopia 2” also reached major milestones at lightning speed. It crossed the $1 billion mark in just 17 days, making it the fastest PG-rated film in history to do so.
One of the biggest drivers of its success has been China, a market where many recent Hollywood releases have struggled. There, “Zootopia 2” has already earned more than $500 million, making it the highest-grossing U.S. movie ever released in the country. The next closest competitor, Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, is still hovering near $100 million after its December debut.
This year, only three films worldwide have crossed the $1 billion mark: Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake with $1.03 billion, China’s animated phenomenon Ne Zha 2 with more than $2.2 billion, and now “Zootopia 2.”
The sequel reunites fans with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, voiced once again by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. The buddy-cop duo returns to the bustling animal metropolis to solve a new reptilian mystery that threatens to throw Zootopia into chaos.
Nearly a decade after the original film became a cultural favorite, “Zootopia 2” has not only lived up to expectations — it has shattered them, proving that audiences around the world are still eager to return to Disney’s vibrant animal city.
