Sharing the update on Instagram, Cretton praised Holland’s dedication and leadership, calling him a “kind, generous” presence both on and off screen. He also thanked the cast and crew for their hard work, describing the film as the most rewarding project he has ever been part of.
In “Brand New Day,” Holland returns as Peter Parker following the dramatic events of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” After accidentally breaking open the multiverse, Peter is forced to make the heartbreaking decision to erase his identity from the memories of the entire world — including his closest friends MJ and Ned, played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.
The Sony and Marvel Studios film features an expanded cast, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Sadie Sink in a still-undisclosed but highly anticipated role.
Cretton also offered personal thanks to his wife, fashion designer Nikki Chapman, and their children for supporting him throughout production. “I love you all so much and can’t wait for the world to see your stunning work on the big screen,” he wrote.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is set to hit theaters on July 31. It marks Cretton’s second Marvel Cinematic Universe film following “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021). He is also a co-creator and director on Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series “Wonder Man,” starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which premieres on January 27.
Excitement around the new Spider-Man film is already high. Each of Holland’s previous Spider-Man movies has outperformed the last at the box office. “Homecoming” earned $880 million worldwide in 2017, “Far From Home” crossed $1.13 billion in 2019, and “No Way Home” became a global phenomenon with $1.9 billion in 2021.
With filming now complete, fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next for Peter Parker in what promises to be one of Marvel’s most anticipated releases yet.
