Paris Jackson Says Drug Use ‘Ruined My Life’ and Left Her With a Perforated Septum

Paris Jackson has spoken candidly about the lasting impact of drug use, revealing it left her with a perforated septum — a hole in the cartilage that separates the nostrils.

The 27-year-old singer, model and actor, who is the daughter of the late Michael Jackson, shared the news in a video posted to her followers. Using a phone torch, she showed the injury and said it was the first time she had ever spoken publicly about it.

“I realise I have never actually addressed this, and it can sometimes be very noticeable,” Jackson said. “I have a really loud whistle. If you go back to videos, you can hear it when I breathe through my nose. That’s because I have what is called a perforated septum.”

According to the NHS, a perforated septum can be caused by several factors, including cocaine use or repeated damage to the nose, such as inserting objects like cotton buds.

Jackson explained that a perforated septum is different from a deviated septum and made it clear what caused hers. “It’s what you think it’s from,” she said. “Don’t do drugs, kids. Everyone is going to have the experience they need to have with life — I’m not going to tell anyone what to do — but I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.”

She also shared that she has decided not to have surgery to fix the problem. Jackson said the procedure could threaten her sobriety, as it would likely require strong pain medication. “I’m almost six years sober,” she explained. “You have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly, and I don’t want to mess with that.”

Jackson added that she has lived with the condition since she was 20, and that it has caused problems in the past, particularly when recording vocals in the studio.

As noted by The Independent, Jackson’s comments come shortly after she marked five years of sobriety on Instagram. In that post, she reflected on her recovery and the happiness she has found since overcoming addiction, describing herself as a former alcoholic and heroin addict.

By sharing her experience, Jackson said she hopes to be honest about the consequences of drug use — and to encourage others to take care of themselves.
