Veteran Sitcom Actor Pat Finn Dies at 60 After Cancer Battle

Veteran comedic actor Pat Finn, best known for his work on popular sitcoms including The Middle, has died following a battle with cancer. He was 60.

Family sources say Finn passed away Monday evening at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones.

Finn built a steady and well-loved career in television comedy, often playing warm, relatable characters that made him a familiar face to viewers. He came up in Hollywood alongside his close friend Chris Farley. The two attended Marquette University in the late 1980s, played rugby together, and later became roommates in Chicago when they joined the famed Second City comedy troupe.

His early career included a memorable guest role on Seinfeld in the early 1990s. From there, Finn went on to appear in a number of classic sitcoms, including Murphy Brown, where he played Phil Jr., and The George Wendt Show, where he portrayed Dan Coleman.

Finn was perhaps most widely recognized for his role on The Middle, where he played Bill Norwood from 2011 to 2018. His character became a recurring favorite, adding humor and heart to the long-running family sitcom.

Following news of his passing, friends and former co-stars shared tributes online, remembering Finn not only for his comedic talent but also for his kindness and loyalty. Comedian Jeff Dye was among those who honored him publicly.

While the family has not confirmed the specific type of cancer Finn was fighting, reports indicate he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer several years ago.

Finn is survived by his wife, Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children.

He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, decades of television work, and fond memories for colleagues and fans alike.
