The 60-year-old wrestling legend shared his decision in an Instagram post, citing deep concerns over WWE’s continued close relationship with Trump and the way the Trump administration has treated immigrants. Foley said he no longer feels comfortable representing a company that maintains ties with the president.
According to Foley, the “final straw” came after what he described as President Trump’s “incredibly cruel comments” following the death of filmmaker Rob Reiner. The remarks, he said, made it impossible for him to stay silent.
“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy,” Foley wrote in his post.
The former WWE Champion, who rose to fame during the late 1990s Attitude Era, also revealed that he will not renew his Legends contract when it expires in June. Legends deals typically allow WWE to use a wrestler’s name and likeness while featuring them in occasional appearances and promotional events.
Foley has been outspoken about his political views in the past. In previous comments, he questioned how some of his WWE colleagues could support Donald Trump, especially given Foley’s long-standing advocacy for compassion, inclusion, and social justice.
WWE has not yet publicly responded to Foley’s announcement. For now, the fan-favorite known as “Mankind,” “Cactus Jack,” and “Dude Love” appears firm in his decision, making it clear that his values outweigh any future appearances in a WWE ring.
