Kate Hudson Reveals Her Hidden Connection to Home Alone 2 While Promoting New Hugh Jackman Film

Kate Hudson has been part of a beloved Christmas movie for decades — even if most fans never knew it.

While appearing on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast, Hudson shared a surprising tidbit about Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The actor joked that she still has “those two-cent residuals” coming her way from the holiday classic. But no, she wasn’t on screen.

“I’m not in it,” Hudson clarified. “I’m on the soundtrack.”

As a child, Hudson was one of the kids who sang for the film’s choral recordings. “I’m just one of the little kids that went to the recording studio and sang,” she said, laughing as she tried — and failed — to remember her exact age at the time.

Doing the math, Hudson would have been around 12 or 13 years old when Home Alone 2 was filmed between late 1991 and mid-1992. Either way, the gig happened years before her acting career officially began.

The daughter of Goldie Hawn, Hudson didn’t make her on-screen debut until 1996, when she appeared on Party of Five. Her big breakthrough came in 2000 with Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, a performance that earned her a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination.

Now, more than two decades later, Hudson is drawing serious awards buzz again for her latest film, Song Sung Blue, a musical comedy-drama starring opposite Hugh Jackman. Directed by Craig Brewer, the movie is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a Wisconsin couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute band and ride the emotional highs and lows of life together.

Brewer has been effusive in his praise, calling Hudson “incredible,” while Jackman has gone even further. Speaking at the Gotham Awards earlier this month, he predicted that Hudson’s performance could earn her another Academy Award nod.

“Kate Hudson is not only one of the great stars of our business, she is a consummate actor,” Jackman said. “I believe this time she is going to get an Oscar.”

For Hudson, whose first Hollywood paycheck may have come from singing in the background of a Christmas classic, Song Sung Blue feels like a full-circle moment — and possibly the most important performance of her career yet.
