Vincent D’Onofrio Confirms Kingpin Will Not Appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe circles back to some familiar characters, fans hoping to see Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk pop up in the next Spider-Man movie are going to be disappointed.

D’Onofrio, who plays the iconic villain in Daredevil: Born Again, has confirmed that Kingpin will not appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, despite ongoing fan theories tying Fisk to New York City politics in the MCU.

Speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, D’Onofrio shut down the rumors with a candid explanation. “No,” he said when asked about a Spider-Man appearance. “I think I’ll just wait until they have the rights to my character and they put me in one of those movies, and then I’ll figure it all out.”

The situation comes down to Marvel’s internal divisions. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day is produced by Marvel Studios, Daredevil: Born Again falls under Marvel Television. For now, that separation appears to be keeping Kingpin out of Spidey’s world.

D’Onofrio will still be very present in the MCU elsewhere. He returns as Fisk in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to premiere March 24 on Disney+. The actor first played the role in Netflix’s Daredevil, which ran from 2015 to 2018 and earned him widespread praise for his chilling take on the character.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to move full steam ahead. In December, director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that filming has wrapped on the movie, which serves as a lead-in to Avengers: Doomsday. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 31.

Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is once again teaming up with producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

On the cast side, Zendaya is confirmed to return as MJ, while Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have joined the film in currently undisclosed roles.

So while Kingpin won’t be crossing paths with Spider-Man just yet, D’Onofrio’s version of the character isn’t going anywhere. For now, fans will have to follow Wilson Fisk’s next moves in Daredevil: Born Again—and keep hoping Marvel eventually finds a way to unite its street-level villains with its friendly neighborhood superhero.
