According to online court records, the dismissal was entered Friday following Stern’s completion of a court-approved education program. Stern, best known for playing Marv in Home Alone and its sequels, had been cited—but not arrested—on December 10, 2025, after a police sting operation at a hotel in Camarillo.
He was charged last month with one misdemeanor count of engaging or agreeing to engage in prostitution. If convicted, Stern could have faced up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
A representative for the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the outcome, saying Stern followed the required steps for a first-time offense. “The defendant did what he was supposed to do,” the spokesperson said. “He completed his education class and earned a dismissal. This is our standard disposition for first-time prostitution offenses.”
The charge had immediate professional consequences for Stern. He had been cast as a series regular in the ABC pilot Do You Want Kids?, but exited the project shortly after the charge was filed. The role was later recast.
The single-camera comedy stars Rachel Bloom and Rory Scovel as a married couple who explore two versions of their lives—one where they have a child and one where they do not—and how that single decision changes everything. Stern was set to play Freddy, the tough, old-school patriarch of the Zilbalodis family.
Beyond Home Alone, Stern is also widely recognized for his role in City Slickers and more recently appeared as a series regular in Seasons 4 and 5 of Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama For All Mankind.
With the case now dismissed, Stern faces no criminal penalties stemming from the incident.
