Tehran Producer Dana Eden Dies at 52 During Season 4 Shoot in Greece

Dana Eden, one of Israel’s most respected television producers and a key figure behind the hit Apple TV+ drama Tehran, has died at the age of 52.

Eden passed away while in Greece, where the fourth season of Tehran is currently being filmed. No official cause of death has been confirmed.

Production Company Denies Rumors

Following her death, Shula and Donna Productions — the company Eden founded with fellow producer Shula Spiegel — released a statement addressing speculation surrounding the circumstances.

“The production company would like to clarify that the rumors suggesting a criminal or nationally motivated death are untrue and completely baseless,” the statement said.

Greek police are reportedly investigating the death to rule out any suspicious circumstances.

Tributes From Across Israel

Eden was widely regarded as one of the senior figures in Israel’s television industry. Israeli public broadcaster Kan, which co-produces Tehran, paid tribute to her in an emotional statement.

“We are saddened by the passing of our friend and partner in a long line of productions, series and programs at the Israel Broadcasting Corporation – Dana Eden,” Kan said. “Dana was among the senior figures in the Israeli television industry and was a central figure in the creation and leadership of some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions.”

Kan also noted that Eden had traveled to Greece to closely monitor the complex production of the show’s fourth season.

Her producing partner Shula Spiegel was also mentioned in the tribute, with colleagues expressing support during what they described as a time of “heavy mourning.”

Israel’s Minister of Culture and Sport, Miki Zohar, shared condolences on X, calling Eden “one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.”

“Dana left a profound mark on Israeli creation and brought our story to international stages with pride, talent, and courage,” he wrote.

About Tehran

Tehran follows Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad agent played by Niv Sultan, who goes undercover in Iran to prevent the country from obtaining a nuclear bomb. Although the series is set in Iran and features significant Farsi dialogue, much of the filming takes place in Greece.

The third season of the thriller began streaming worldwide in January on Apple TV+. Reports suggested its release was delayed due to similarities between the show’s storyline and real-world political developments in Iran over the past year.

Season four was described as a complex and significant production, with Eden closely overseeing the filming.

A Lasting Legacy

Dana Eden’s work helped bring Israeli television to a global audience. Through Tehran and other productions, she played a major role in expanding the international reach of Israeli storytelling.

As investigations continue into the circumstances of her death, colleagues and leaders across Israel are remembering her dedication, professionalism, and passion for television.

Her family, friends, and collaborators continue to receive tributes from across the entertainment and political communities.
