Inside Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth’s Quiet Breakup

After more than a decade of an on-and-off relationship, Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth quietly separated last year.

The two actors, who first met in 2012 while filming Nymphomaniac: Vol. II, have had a famously complicated love story. They share a 3-year-old daughter, Isabel, born in 2022.

According to a source close to the couple, the split followed a turbulent year.

“Their relationship has always been complicated. They weren't getting along and had a lot of drama last year,” the source tells PEOPLE. LaBeouf, 39, reportedly moved from their home in Los Angeles to New Orleans after Goth, 32, encouraged him to leave.

“She loves him, but she also doesn't need him,” the insider adds. “She's very independent. She has her own life, her own career and her priority is their daughter.”

Despite the separation, LaBeouf remains involved as a father. “Shia loves their daughter and stays in touch,” the source says.

A Relationship Marked by Highs and Lows

LaBeouf and Goth’s relationship has long made headlines. After meeting on set in 2012, the pair went through multiple breakups and reconciliations. A heated argument between them surfaced publicly in 2015. In 2016, they held a Las Vegas ceremony that was widely reported as a wedding, though officials later clarified it was not legally binding.

They announced plans to divorce in 2018, but by 2020, the two were seen wearing wedding rings again, signaling another reconciliation. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter.

LaBeouf has previously spoken openly about how fatherhood changed him. During a 2022 appearance on Jon Bernthal’s Real Ones podcast, the Even Stevens Movie alum said becoming a parent brought “real love” into his life.

Goth has also embraced motherhood. In an October 2025 interview with Elle, she described parenting as “a really psychedelic experience” and called her daughter “the greatest gift of my life.”

Legal Troubles in New Orleans

News of the split comes amid LaBeouf’s latest legal troubles.

The Honey Boy actor was arrested in New Orleans during Mardi Gras celebrations on Feb. 17. According to a New Orleans Police Department report, LaBeouf faces two counts of simple battery following an alleged altercation outside a bar in the French Quarter.

Police claim he punched two men after being ejected from the bar. He was later taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries before being arrested.

Hours after his release on Feb. 18, LaBeouf was spotted on Bourbon Street dancing with revelers, holding his jail release paperwork in his mouth. He later posted “Free me” on X (formerly Twitter), along with a selfie wearing sunglasses and Mardi Gras beads.

LaBeouf, who starred in the Transformers franchise early in his career, has faced a series of public controversies and arrests over the years.

Moving Forward

For now, sources say Goth remains focused on raising their daughter and continuing her acting career. While their romantic relationship may have ended — at least for now — the two continue to share a deep bond through parenthood.

As one insider put it: “She loves him. But she’s strong on her own.”
