According to the New Orleans Police Department, the actor was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Tuesday and charged with two counts of simple battery. The incident reportedly happened at R Bar in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, just outside the French Quarter.
What Happened at the Bar
Police say LaBeouf was causing a disturbance inside the bar and became increasingly aggressive. Staff members eventually tried to remove him from the premises.
After he was escorted outside, LaBeouf allegedly punched one man several times with closed fists. Authorities say he then left the scene but returned shortly after and continued acting aggressively as a crowd gathered.
According to the police report, bystanders attempted to restrain him in hopes he would calm down and leave. However, he allegedly resumed hitting the same man and later punched another person in the nose. He was held down until officers arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. After being released, he was formally arrested.
Court Appearance and Release
Later Tuesday, LaBeouf appeared virtually before a judge in Orleans Parish Criminal Court. He was released on his own recognizance, meaning he did not have to post bail, but he must return for future court dates. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 19.
Video Surfaces
A video published by TMZ shows LaBeouf on the ground as someone appears to strike him while people nearby tell him to “chill” and “cut that out.” The footage was reportedly recorded before police arrived.
Reports of a Weekend Bar Crawl
The arrest came after what witnesses described as an extended weekend of bar-hopping during Mardi Gras. Employees at several Uptown establishments claimed the actor appeared intoxicated and at times belligerent.
One doorman at a 24-hour bar said LaBeouf arrived without a shirt and appeared “inebriated.” He allegedly tried to act as a “celebrity bartender” on a previous visit and was asked to leave.
LaBeouf, who has spoken publicly about his struggles with alcoholism, recently said he is sober and has been working to change his behavior.
Reflecting on His Past
In a May 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside director David Mamet, LaBeouf described himself as “a narcissist” and spoke openly about past psychological struggles. He said he is now trying to find a healthier version of himself and take responsibility for his past actions.
A Career Marked by Highs and Lows
LaBeouf first gained fame as a child actor on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before starring in major films including the Transformers franchise, Disturbia and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
More recently, he appeared in Megalopolis directed by Francis Ford Coppola, as well as Padre Pio and Pieces of a Woman. He also starred in the independently released film Henry Johnson.
The latest arrest adds another chapter to the actor’s long and often turbulent public history. As Mardi Gras celebrations continue in New Orleans, LaBeouf now faces legal proceedings that could impact both his personal life and professional comeback.
