Police Say Savannah Guthrie’s Family Not Considered Suspects in Mom’s Disappearance

Law enforcement officials say they are leaning away from the idea that a member of Savannah Guthrie’s family was involved in the abduction of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie — though no one has been officially cleared.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie say they do not currently believe her relatives are suspects, according to multiple reports.

Law enforcement sources told NBC and ABC News that Nancy’s family members are not considered suspects at this time. Good Morning America also reported that investigators are leaning away from suspecting two men who were detained for questioning last week and later released.

However, Chris Nanos, the sheriff of Pima County, stressed that no one has been fully cleared.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Nanos said, “Nobody has been cleared in this case,” including workers at Nancy’s home and individuals connected to two recent SWAT raids.

Family Described as “Nothing but Cooperative”

Nancy was last seen alive on Saturday, Jan. 31, after having dinner with her daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni at their home, which is about 10 minutes away from hers. Authorities confirmed that a family member drove her home but have chosen not to identify who it was.

“We know who it is,” Nanos said, explaining that officials decided to simply say “family” to avoid online speculation and finger-pointing.

The sheriff described the Guthrie family as fully cooperative during the investigation.

“Everything we’ve asked for, they’ve given us,” Nanos said. “They’re in such a state of grief… They’re a little weary too of what’s been going on and being said about them.”

DNA Evidence and Surveillance Footage

Investigators have revealed that DNA was discovered inside Nancy’s home that does not belong to her or her close contacts. Authorities have not disclosed whose DNA it may be.

Last week, surveillance footage from Nancy’s Nest doorbell camera was released. The video shows a masked, armed individual disabling the camera before allegedly entering the home.

Nancy was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, after she failed to attend a scheduled virtual church service.

Savannah’s Emotional Message

As the investigation entered its third week, Savannah shared a heartfelt video on Instagram on Feb. 15.

Addressing whoever may be holding her mother, she said, “It’s never too late. You’re not lost or alone. And it is never too late to do the right thing. We are here. And we believe.”

Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.

Authorities continue to investigate and are asking the public for patience as they work to bring Nancy home safely.
