The 50-year-old, best known for his role in Doctor Who and for creating and starring in Kidulthood, was questioned by detectives on Tuesday and later released on bail while investigations continue.
Arrest Linked to 2007 Allegation
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man in his 50s was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in connection with an alleged sexual offence said to have taken place in London in 2007. The allegation involves a woman who was in her 20s at the time.
In a statement, police said the man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, exposure and sexual assault by touching. He was interviewed by detectives and then bailed pending further inquiries.
Officers also questioned him about a separate voyeurism allegation. He had previously been arrested in September 2025 in connection with that claim, which allegedly relates to an incident in 2013 involving a woman in her 20s at a London address.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Arrival at Police Station
According to The Sun, Clarke arrived at Islington police station in north London shortly after midday by appointment. He was reportedly accompanied by his wife and his lawyer.
The newspaper reported that detectives from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime Command carried out the arrest and questioning.
Career Rise and Fall
Clarke rose to fame playing Mickey Smith in Doctor Who between 2005 and 2010. He later built a successful career as an actor, writer, producer and director, with projects including Kidulthood and its sequels.
However, his career suffered a major setback in 2021 after The Guardian published accounts from several women who had worked with him, accusing him of sexual misconduct. Clarke strongly denied the allegations.
In August 2025, Clarke lost a high-profile libel case against The Guardian’s publisher. He had sued the newspaper over its reporting, but the court ruled against him.
The following month, a High Court judge ordered Clarke to pay at least £3 million toward the publisher’s legal costs. The newspaper’s lawyers told the court that their total costs were estimated at around £6 million, meaning the final amount he may owe could be even higher.
Investigation Continues
The Metropolitan Police emphasized that the investigation remains active. Clarke has not been charged, and being arrested does not mean someone is guilty.
Authorities have not released further details at this stage.
