In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, Campbell said she “didn’t think I could live with myself” if she had accepted the offer to return for the sixth installment of the long-running horror franchise.
“When I made that decision, I just didn’t think I could live with myself walking on set,” Campbell said. “I just didn’t feel right. I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered. For me, I needed to make that choice.”
Why Neve Campbell Turned Down ‘Scream 6’
Campbell, who has played Sidney Prescott since the original Scream debuted in 1996, previously confirmed she would not appear in the sixth film due to a salary dispute.
In 2022, she told Variety that “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream,’” she said at the time. “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on.”
Campbell admitted it was emotional watching production begin without her.
“I knew that there was a good chance that would be it,” she said. “It was tough knowing they were having their first day of shooting and I wasn’t there. But I ultimately knew I made the right decision.”
She also clarified that when she publicly spoke about her pay dispute, she wasn’t trying to create backlash — she was simply sharing her truth.
“It wasn’t really to rally everybody,” Campbell explained. “It was really just my truth at the time. The fact that people got behind me and I got lovely support — that was nice.”
Neve Campbell Returning for ‘Scream 7’
After sitting out Scream 6, Campbell is officially returning for Scream 7. She will reunite with original cast members David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Courteney Cox.
The upcoming film will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original 1996 Scream.
Campbell has long been considered the face of the franchise, and her return marks a major moment for longtime fans.
For now, the actress says she stands by her earlier decision — even if it was difficult at the time.
“I do feel that other people need to make those choices,” she said, encouraging others to stand up for their worth.
With Scream 7 on the way, Sidney Prescott’s story is far from over.
