The actor has landed a guest star role in Season 3 of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” setting up a mini “Beetlejuice” reunion behind the scenes.
Ryder recently worked with “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega in the 2024 sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” where Ortega played her daughter. The film was directed by Tim Burton — who also directs and executive produces “Wednesday.” The Netflix series is created and run by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who wrote the screenplay for the “Beetlejuice” sequel.
“I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world,” Burton said in a statement. “And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her.”
Details about Ryder’s role are being kept under wraps, but her casting has already sparked excitement among fans. Gough and Millar praised her as a perfect fit for the show’s gothic tone.
“When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT,” they said. “Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore.”
Ryder is no stranger to dark, offbeat storytelling. She first starred in the original 1988 “Beetlejuice” and has teamed with Burton several times since, including in “Edward Scissorhands” and the animated film “Frankenweenie.”
She also recently wrapped up her run on Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” which concluded with its fifth and final season. Ryder joined that series in 2016 and became a fan favorite as Joyce Byers.
In “Wednesday,” Jenna Ortega leads the cast as Wednesday Addams, a student at Nevermore Academy who investigates supernatural mysteries while navigating friendships and family drama. Season 3 will also introduce Eva Green as Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia.
Other returning cast members include Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley and Fred Armisen.
“Wednesday” remains one of Netflix’s biggest hits. Season 2, which was released in two parts in August and September 2025, became one of the platform’s most-watched English-language seasons. The first season still holds the top spot.
With Ryder joining the cast, Season 3 is already shaping up to be another major moment for the gothic coming-of-age series.
