Grace will play Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series — and none other than Sarah Michelle Gellar has given her seal of approval.
After news broke that Grace had landed the role, Gellar — who famously portrayed Daphne in the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie and its sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed — shared her excitement on Instagram.
“You are going to be perfect!!” Gellar wrote, showing her support for the next generation of Mystery Inc.
A Fresh Take on Scooby-Doo
The new eight-episode series, ordered straight to series by Netflix, will serve as an origin story for the beloved mystery-solving gang. The yet-untitled project explores how the members of Mystery Inc. first came together — and the chilling case that started it all.
According to the official description, the story unfolds during Shaggy and Daphne’s final summer at camp. The longtime friends find themselves pulled into a haunting mystery involving a lonely lost Great Dane puppy — who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
As strange events escalate, they team up with:
• Velma, the practical and science-minded local girl
• Freddy, the handsome but mysterious new kid
Together, the group begins to uncover secrets that could expose more than just a ghost story.
The Creative Team Behind the Series
The show comes from Midnight Radio and Warner Bros. Television, in association with Berlanti Productions. It is written and executive produced by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also serve as showrunners. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner executive produce through Midnight Radio.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce for Berlanti Productions under the company’s deal with Warner Bros. Television.
The series is based on characters originally created by Hanna-Barbera, the legendary studio behind the classic animated franchise.
A New Daphne for a New Generation
Grace, known for her standout performances in film and television, now takes on one of pop culture’s most recognizable redheads. With Gellar’s public endorsement and a darker, origin-focused storyline, the new Scooby-Doo aims to introduce Mystery Inc. to a new generation while honoring its legacy.
And if Gellar’s blessing is any indication, Daphne is in very good hands.
