On Feb. 10, production company Blink49 Studios confirmed that Zarin will no longer be part of the project. The decision came just two days after the former Real Housewives of New York City star faced criticism for remarks many viewers called racist.
“In light of recent public comments made by Jill Zarin, Blink49 Studios has decided not to move forward with her involvement in The Golden Life,” the company said in a statement. “We remain committed to delivering the series in line with our company standards and values.”
Backlash Over Super Bowl Comments
The controversy began on Super Bowl Sunday, when Zarin posted a video on Instagram criticizing Bad Bunny’s halftime show.
In the since-deleted video, Zarin called it “the worst halftime show ever.” She questioned why parts of the performance were in Spanish, saying, “It’s 250 years that we’re celebrating right now in the United States, and I just don’t think it was appropriate to have it in Spanish.”
She also criticized the singer’s stage presence and suggested the performance felt political. Her remarks quickly sparked outrage online, with many accusing her of making insensitive and exclusionary comments.
Zarin Fabrics Distances Itself
The fallout extended beyond television. On Feb. 9, Zarin Fabrics — the New York City fabric store once owned by Zarin’s late husband, Bobby Zarin — publicly distanced itself from her.
The company shared a photo of Zarin with a red “X” over her face and issued a strong statement.
“Zarin Fabrics stands firmly against racism, discrimination, and rhetoric that seeks to exclude or diminish people based on identity, culture, or background,” the statement read. The company also clarified that Zarin has not been involved in the business for several years and that her comments do not reflect its values.
They added that they remain committed to fostering “an inclusive and welcoming environment.”
What Is The Golden Life?
The Golden Life will follow several original stars of The Real Housewives of New York City as they begin a new chapter in Palm Beach, Florida.
The cast now includes:
• Luann de Lesseps
• Ramona Singer
• Kelly Bensimon
• Sonja Morgan
According to a press release, the series will show the longtime friends navigating dating, family, and career changes while enjoying life in Florida’s upscale social scene. However, old tensions and unresolved drama are expected to resurface.
The new show comes four years after Bravo rebooted RHONY in 2022 with a completely new cast following a controversial and low-rated season 13.
Filming for The Golden Life is set to begin this spring. With Zarin no longer involved, the spotlight will now remain on the remaining Housewives as they step into what producers are calling their “golden era.”
