‘Heated Rivalry’ Targets Spring 2027 Return as Season 2 Begins Filming This Summer

Heated Rivalry is expected to return to TV screens in spring 2027.

Creator Jacob Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady shared an update during an appearance on CBS Mornings with Gayle King. Tierney said the team is currently writing season two and plans to begin filming in August. While King initially mentioned an April 2027 premiere date, CBS later clarified that the show is aiming for a spring 2027 release instead.

Canadian studio Bell Media and streamer Crave confirmed that production will begin this summer. HBO Max will continue to air the series in the United States.

“There will be more Heated Rivalry on your TVs as soon as humanly possible,” Tierney said. Brady added that fans should “enjoy the yearn” while waiting for the new season.

Tierney said the show remains a faithful adaptation of Rachel Reid’s popular romance novels. He stressed that the creative team wants to respect both the source material and its audience, rather than simplifying the story.

Heated Rivalry is based on Reid’s Game Changers book series. The story follows rival hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as their intense competition turns into a long-term romantic relationship. The series is produced in Canada for Crave and streams on HBO Max in the U.S.

Reid also recently announced that the next book in the series, Unrivaled, will be released in 2027, continuing Shane and Ilya’s story.

The show has helped launch the careers of its lead actors. Hudson Williams is set to appear in the Crave series Yaga, while Connor Storrie is hosting Saturday Night Live and is reportedly in talks for a role in the A24 film Peaked.
