Harrison Ford Slams Donald Trump Over Climate Change in Blunt Interview

Actor Harrison Ford has sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s approach to climate change, accusing him of ignoring science and governing based on “whims.”

In an interview with The Guardian, Ford said Trump’s policies on climate and energy “scare the s— out of me,” pointing to what he called “ignorance, hubris, lies and perfidy.”

“He knows better, but he’s an instrument of the status quo,” Ford said, adding that Trump is “making money, hand over fist, while the world goes to hell in a handbasket.”

Ford Targets “Drill, Baby, Drill” Agenda

Ford took aim at Trump’s push for expanded fossil fuel production, often summed up by the slogan “drill, baby, drill.” The actor said he hopes the agenda ultimately fails and argued that the president is “losing ground because everything he says is a lie.”

Despite his criticism, Ford expressed optimism about tackling climate change.

“I’m confident we can mitigate against it,” he said, adding that humanity has the ability to adapt, innovate and implement new technologies if there is enough political will.

“We are incredibly adaptive, we are incredibly inventive. If we concentrate on a problem, we can fix it most times,” Ford said.

Joke About Wind Energy

Ford also mocked Trump’s long-standing opposition to wind turbines. The actor joked that the president might dislike wind energy because “he has just not seen a gold one,” referencing Trump’s well-known preference for gold decor.

Conservation Award in Chicago

The interview came ahead of Ford’s appearance at the Field Museum in Chicago, where he received a conservation award from the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation.

The foundation, named after late biologist E. O. Wilson, honored Ford for his decades of environmental advocacy. Ford and Wilson were close friends before Wilson’s death in 2021.

Longtime Political Critic

Ford, best known for playing Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and the title role in the Indiana Jones series, has been openly critical of Trump for years.

During the 2024 presidential race, Ford endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her campaign against Trump. In a campaign video, Ford said Trump “demands unquestioning loyalty” and “wants revenge.”

Among Most Admired Movie Presidents

Interestingly, Ford’s fictional role as President James Marshall in Air Force One was ranked among the most admired movie presidents in a National Research Group poll. The list also included characters played by Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact and Bill Pullman in Independence Day.

As the climate debate continues to shape national politics, Ford’s comments add another high-profile Hollywood voice to the discussion over environmental policy and leadership.
