The Oscar-winning actress appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, where she cleared up rumors that she had turned down a marriage proposal from her longtime boyfriend, Van Hunt.
Host Jimmy Fallon teased that Halle had some “very happy news” to share, prompting her to address the confusion head-on. According to Halle, the reports were wrong — she did say yes.
“There’s no rejection story here,” Halle explained. She confirmed that Van has proposed and that they are officially engaged. The only thing missing right now is a wedding date. “We just haven’t set the day yet,” she said, adding that they’re enjoying this phase and taking their time.
If and when the couple does walk down the aisle, it will be Halle’s fourth marriage. She was previously married to David Justice from 1993 to 1997, singer Eric Benet from 2001 to 2005, and French actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016.
As for Van Hunt, Halle shared in a 2025 interview with TODAY.com that he had been married once before, though she didn’t go into details. Van himself has never spoken publicly about that relationship.
Halle and Van first went public as a couple in September 2020, and their bond has only grown stronger since. Fans have often praised their chemistry and the way they openly support one another.
For now, the couple is happily engaged, focused on love rather than logistics — and Halle seems perfectly content letting the next chapter unfold in its own time. ❤️
