Ahead of the 2026 Super Bowl, Drake revealed on Instagram that he had placed a massive $1 million bet on the New England Patriots to win the championship. Confident as ever, the rapper even dared fans to doubt him.
“Bet against me if you dare,” Drake wrote as he shared proof of the wager on Saturday, Feb. 7. Had the Patriots pulled off a victory, Drake would have walked away with an estimated $2.95 million.
Instead, disaster struck.
The Seattle Seahawks dominated the game, beating the Patriots 29–13 and sending Drake home empty-handed — once again. Almost immediately, social media lit up with fans declaring that the infamous Drake curse had struck yet again.
What is the Drake curse?
The Drake curse is a long-running internet theory that claims any team publicly supported or bet on by Drake is doomed to lose. The idea has followed the rapper for years, fueled by a series of high-profile losses.
Among the most talked-about examples:
• In 2016, Drake reportedly lost a $60,000 bet to French Montana over the NBA Finals.
• In 2025, the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated by the Florida Panthers after Drake placed a $1 million bet on Toronto.
• That same year, Drake bet over $1 million on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl — only to see them lose to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Drake has heard the jokes — and laughs along
Drake has never shied away from addressing the curse. In a May 19 interview with Instagram Faux, he made it clear he doesn’t buy into the superstition.
“The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly,” he said. “First of all, the Toronto Raptors won a championship, so nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse.”
He pointed to the Raptors’ historic 2019 NBA title run, led by Kawhi Leonard, as proof that his support doesn’t always spell doom.
“If there was a Drake Curse, Kawhi would’ve never hit that shot, we would’ve never beat the Warriors,” he added. “There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though.”
Still, the rapper admits that betting might not be his strong suit.
“I’m a flawed sports bettor — it’s not my gift,” Drake said with a laugh. “I’m sure if you’re a Drake curse believer, there will be plenty more content in the future to confirm your theories because, for whatever reason, my slips do not cash out.”
For now, one thing is certain: as long as Drake keeps placing big bets, fans will keep watching closely — and maybe betting the other way. 🏈💸
