In an interview with The New York Times on Feb. 13, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators will keep searching for Nancy — no matter how long it takes.
“Maybe it’s an hour from now,” Nanos said. “Maybe it’s weeks or months or years from now. But we won’t quit. We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”
Late-Night Search Near Nancy’s Home
On Feb. 13, law enforcement officers swarmed a home about two miles from Nancy’s residence in Tucson. The heavy police presence was later confirmed by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) as connected to her disappearance.
A federal, court-ordered search warrant was executed at a home near East Orange Grove Road and North First Avenue after authorities followed up on a lead. A traffic stop was also conducted, and one person was questioned. However, officials confirmed that no arrests were made.
A neighbor of the searched home told The New York Times that the residence belongs to an older woman who lives with her adult son. According to the neighbor, the woman was distraught and had no idea why investigators were focused on her property.
“There are no further details available at this time,” a PCSD spokesperson said.
DNA Evidence and Blood Found at Home
Nancy — the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie — was last seen at her Tucson home on the night of Jan. 31. Her family reported her missing on Feb. 1 after she did not attend church.
Authorities have confirmed that blood matching Nancy’s DNA was found on the exterior porch of her home. Gloves and other pieces of evidence are currently undergoing forensic testing.
Investigators also revealed that DNA belonging to someone other than Nancy or her close contacts was discovered at the property. Officials are working to identify whose DNA it is but have not disclosed where it was found.
FBI Releases Surveillance Footage
The FBI has released surveillance footage showing a masked and reportedly armed individual tampering with a Nest doorbell camera at Nancy’s front door on the morning she was allegedly kidnapped.
After the footage and photos were made public, Savannah Guthrie shared them on Instagram, urging the public to help identify the person.
“We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” she wrote.
In a second post, Savannah added, “Someone out there recognizes this person.”
Ransom Notes and $100,000 Reward
Authorities are also investigating ransom notes allegedly sent to several media outlets. The FBI said it is not aware of any direct communication between the suspected kidnapper or kidnappers and the Guthrie family.
The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest.
Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
As the investigation continues, Sheriff Nanos made it clear that officials are not giving up.
“We won’t quit,” he said.
