Amelia Dimoldenberg Is Turning Her Awkward Charm Into a Romantic Comedy for Amazon MGM

Amelia Dimoldenberg, the creator and star of the wildly popular interview series Chicken Shop Date, is stepping into the world of feature films. The internet star is developing and starring in a romantic comedy for Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.

The film will center on a highly organized, rule-following journalist whose perfectly planned life begins to fall apart after a routine celebrity interview unexpectedly sparks a romance. The relationship forces her to question everything she thought she knew about love, control, and her future.

Production duties will be handled by Gloria Sanchez Productions, the company behind acclaimed projects like Booksmart and Will & Harper. Dimoldenberg will also produce through her own banner, Dimz, Inc. The screenplay will be written by Sarah Heyward, whose recent work spans both film and television.

Dimoldenberg has built a massive global following thanks to Chicken Shop Date, a series that turns awkwardness into an art form. Filmed in London fried chicken shops, the show features her deadpan, flirtatious interviews with A-list guests such as Jennifer Lawrence and Charli xcx. The series is commissioned under her production company Dimz, Inc., which also produces her newer original project, Passenger Princess.

Beyond YouTube, Dimoldenberg has become a familiar face on major stages. She has received recognition from awards bodies like the Streamys and the Webbys, and she has served as a red carpet correspondent for the Academy Awards for two consecutive years, with a third appearance scheduled this March. Last year, she also launched Dimz, Inc. Academy, an initiative designed to help young people from all backgrounds break into the creative media industries.

Writer Sarah Heyward brings serious rom-com and TV credentials to the project. She is currently writing a new film for Netflix and previously adapted Emily Henry’s Book Lovers for Tango Entertainment. On television, she is working on Sweet Valley High for Netflix and serves as a co-executive producer on season three of Nobody Wants This. Earlier in her career, she worked on HBO’s Girls from its first episode to its finale.

Gloria Sanchez Productions, led by Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum, has been busy across film and TV. Recent projects include You’re Cordially Invited for Amazon, starring Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, and the upcoming Judgment Day, which will pair Ferrell with Zac Efron. The company is also producing Netflix’s The Fifth Wheel and previously backed the Emmy-nominated series Dead to Me.

With Dimoldenberg’s signature awkward humor and a classic romantic comedy setup, the project signals a major new chapter for the internet star—one that could turn her viral charm into a big-screen love story.
