Warwick Davis Says HBO’s Harry Potter Series Will Go Deeper Than the Films

Warwick Davis has shared new details about Harry Potter, saying the upcoming show will explore the story in far more depth than the movies.

Davis, who is returning as Professor Flitwick after first playing the character in the original films, said the series will closely follow the books by J.K. Rowling. Speaking to Times Radio, he explained that the episodes are “very faithful adaptations” and allow room for more detail.

“We’re retelling those wonderful stories but with more depth and detail than has been seen before,” Davis said. “They’re very faithful adaptations of the book.”

The actor added that returning to the same filming location has been a strange but familiar experience. The series is being shot at Leavesden Studios, where the movies were filmed. “It’s weird being back in the same studios again, doing it all again,” he said.

Davis appeared in all eight Harry Potter films, first pulling double duty as Professor Flitwick and the goblin banker Griphook in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). In the new series, he will once again play Flitwick, while actor Leigh Gill will take on the role of Griphook.

The new adaptation comes as Rowling continues to face criticism over her views on transgender issues. Her comments have sparked backlash from fans and figures connected to the franchise, including director Christopher Columbus.

More than 400 people from the UK film and television industry have signed a public letter calling for stronger support of trans rights. Among them is Paapa Essiedu, who has been cast in the series as Professor Snape.

Despite the controversy, Davis focused on the storytelling, emphasizing that the goal of the series is to bring the books to life in a richer and more complete way for both new viewers and longtime fans.
