Actor Timothy Busfield Charged in New Mexico Child Sex Abuse Case

Actor and director Timothy Busfield, known for his roles on The West Wing and Thirtysomething, has been charged in New Mexico in connection with allegations of sexual abuse involving underage child actors.

According to a criminal complaint filed Friday in New Mexico and obtained by TMZ, Busfield is charged with child abuse and two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor under the age of 13.

Prosecutors allege the incidents occurred on the set of the television series The Cleaning Lady. The complaint states that one child actor told law enforcement Busfield touched him in his private areas after a scene had ended. The child was reportedly 7 years old at the time. Prosecutors allege the child said the inappropriate contact happened five or six times between takes and continued on multiple occasions when the child was 8 years old.

The complaint also alleges that a second child actor told investigators Busfield touched him inappropriately while working on the same production.

Police in Albuquerque said they began investigating Busfield in November 2024 following reports of alleged sexual abuse. Authorities confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued and that law enforcement is actively searching for Busfield. Police said they hope he will surrender voluntarily.

Busfield won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1991 for his work on Thirtysomething. His film credits include Field of Dreams and Revenge of the Nerds.

The case remains under investigation.
