Sophie Turner Says Prime Video’s Tomb Raider Series Will Be “Action-Packed”

With filming yet to begin on Tomb Raider, details about the upcoming show remain mostly under wraps. But new comments from star Sophie Turner suggest viewers can expect a physically demanding, high-energy take on Lara Croft.

Speaking ahead of production, Turner revealed that her preparation for the role began almost a year before cameras roll. The actor said she started training in February 2025 and has been preparing continuously for the shoot, which is scheduled to begin in January 2026.

She explained that while she can’t share many specifics about the story, the long training period has helped her feel confident and ready. Turner also said she’s excited about working closely with Amazon and believes the series will offer something special for fans of the franchise.

Turner, best known for her role on Game of Thrones, will play the iconic archaeologist Lara Croft, a character famous for dangerous expeditions, ancient mysteries, and intense action sequences. Her comments strongly hint that the show will stay true to that adventurous spirit.

New Cast Details Revealed

Amazon recently announced 10 additional cast members joining the series. Among them is Jason Isaacs, who will portray Lara’s uncle, Atlas de Mornay. In the video game canon, Atlas is a relatively minor but significant figure who tries to take control of the Croft family estate after Lara’s mother disappears.

The character is referenced in Rise of the Tomb Raider and mentioned again in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, mainly through voice recordings and documents rather than on-screen appearances.

Also joining the cast are Bill Paterson as Lara’s butler Winston and Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, a tech expert who assists Lara.

Atlas de Mornay plays a larger role in the rebooted Tomb Raider comic series published by Dark Horse Comics, particularly in issue #7 from 2016. This has led fans to believe the show may draw inspiration not just from the games, but also from the comics.

The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Their involvement has further raised expectations for a fresh but faithful take on the legendary franchise.

While plot details remain secret for now, Turner’s comments make one thing clear: Lara Croft’s return to the screen will involve serious action, intense physical challenges, and a bold new chapter for Tomb Raider fans.
