The singer shared a series of throwback photos on her Instagram Stories, looking back on a huge year in her career. Among the highlights were her collaboration with Dolly Parton on the “Please Please Please” remix, the release of her album Man’s Best Friend, and her massively successful Short n’ Sweet Tour.
But one photo stood out for a very different reason.
Near the end of the post, Carpenter shared an image of a bathroom sink with visible burn marks around the vanity and mirror. A red glass candle could be seen nearby. She captioned the photo with a joke, writing, “Set my bathroom on fire by accident,” followed by a white heart emoji. She didn’t explain how the fire started or when it happened.
Carpenter isn’t the only artist linked to a fire mishap. Other performers who opened for Taylor Swift during the Eras Tour have had similar moments. In June 2024, Gracie Abrams shared a video showing herself and Swift trying to put out a small kitchen fire.
In the clip, Swift looked confused as a flame burned on a countertop while she held a fire extinguisher. She joked, “I think we’re gonna die!” When the extinguisher finally went off, it sprayed everywhere, causing both singers to scream. Swift later joked that their purses, shoes, and possibly the whole room were ruined.
Abrams shared the video to celebrate her collaboration with Swift, writing that the experience taught them how to use a fire extinguisher — after a very long night of songwriting.
It’s unclear if anyone else was around during Carpenter’s bathroom fire incident. But fans joked that if Swift had been there, she would at least know exactly how to handle it now.
Carpenter’s year-in-review also included other big moments, like singing with Paul Simon on Saturday Night Live, landing a Vogue cover, and filming the “Tears” music video with Colman Domingo.
All in all, it was a year full of success — with just a little bit of fire along the way.
