According to reports, Clooney, Amal, and their 8-year-old twins were officially granted French citizenship through government decrees issued over the weekend.
Trump responded to the news on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling it “good news” and launching a sharp attack on the famous couple. In his post, Trump criticized the Clooneys’ political views and claimed France is struggling with crime due to what he described as poor immigration policies.
He also brought up a 2024 opinion piece Clooney wrote for The New York Times, in which the actor urged then-President Joe Biden not to run for reelection. In that op-ed, Clooney supported Kamala Harris as an alternative Democratic candidate.
Trump mocked Clooney’s political involvement and questioned his influence, claiming the actor received more attention for his political comments than for his film career. He also took aim at several Democratic leaders, including Gavin Newsom and Tim Walz, suggesting the party faces future defeats.
Clooney has not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks. The actor, known for both his Hollywood career and political activism, has been a vocal supporter of Democratic causes for years.
