Corey Feldman Says Wes Craven “Pranked” Him With a Humiliating Role Offer

Corey Feldman says he believed he was about to join horror royalty when legendary director Wes Craven called him about a role in the 2005 horror movie Cursed — but the experience turned out to be deeply disappointing.

Speaking on the misSPELLING podcast with actress Tori Spelling, Feldman said Craven personally reached out to his team and praised his talent. According to Feldman, the director told him he was a big fan and wanted to give him a meaningful role that would remind people how talented he really was.

Feldman said he was excited and quickly agreed to read the script. But when it arrived, his excitement turned into shock.

Instead of a real character, Feldman was offered a brief cameo playing himself. The scene included a joke where another character mocks him, implying he had been forgotten. Feldman called the role “humiliating” and said it felt like a setup rather than a serious acting opportunity.

The actor, best known for classics like The Goonies and Stand By Me, said he turned the role down multiple times. Each time, the filmmakers raised the pay. Eventually, Feldman agreed after being offered what he described as “so much money I couldn’t refuse.”

The production of Cursed was troubled from the start. Craven later admitted in a 2007 interview with Entertainment Weekly that the movie was “not very pleasant” to work on.

In the end, Feldman got an unexpected silver lining. His cameo was completely cut from the final film.

“I was very grateful,” Feldman said. “I got the payday, but I didn’t get the humiliation.”

For Feldman, what first felt like a cruel joke ultimately worked out — even if it left him with a strange Hollywood story he won’t soon forget.
