Will Darcy Lewis Return in Avengers: Doomsday?

Fans hoping to see Darcy Lewis pop up in Avengers: Doomsday may want to keep expectations in check — at least for now.

Kat Dennings, who plays the fan-favorite scientist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, says she does not believe she appears in the upcoming crossover film. Speaking recently to Entertainment Tonight, the actress was very clear that she did not film anything for the project.

“I’m in the universe and as you know, I can’t tell you anything, but I am not in it,” Dennings said. “I mean, I’m not in it. And I’m telling you right now I’m not in it. If I were in it, which I’m not, I couldn’t tell you, but I literally am not.”

Dennings added that filming has likely already wrapped. “I’m sure they already filmed it. I was here in Los Angeles — I’m not in it,” she said.

That said, the actress did leave the door slightly open for surprises. Dennings noted that Marvel has scanned her body for visual effects in the past, meaning the studio technically has the ability to recreate her likeness digitally.

“They did scan me, so to be honest, they could put me in anything they want at this point,” she said. “Who knows!”

Dennings first appeared as Darcy Lewis in Thor in 2011, playing the quirky assistant to Jane Foster, portrayed by Natalie Portman. She returned in Thor: The Dark World and later appeared in the Disney+ series WandaVision. The character also showed up briefly in Thor: Love and Thunder and was voiced by Dennings in multiple episodes of the animated series What If...?.

Marvel Studios has previously confirmed that actor body scans are commonly used for visual effects. VFX supervisor Stephane Ceretti explained in 2018 that scans help recreate costumes and movements accurately, not to secretly insert actors into films without their involvement. As of now, no Marvel project is known to have used an actor’s digital scan without their participation.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to bring back several major MCU stars, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who will return to the franchise for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. They will be joined by Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke.

The film will also introduce new faces to the Avengers lineup, such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, and others. In a major crossover moment, actors from Fox’s X-Men films — including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen — are also expected to reprise their mutant roles.

For now, Dennings insists Darcy Lewis is sitting this one out. Still, in a universe built on surprises, fans know better than to say never.
