In an Instagram post shared Saturday, January 3, the 35-year-old claimed his termination was an act of retaliation by management after he raised safety concerns involving children. Lawrence said he delayed making the situation public for about a month, hoping to resolve the matter privately.
“I absolutely loved performing and dancing with all you amazing people,” Lawrence wrote, sharing a photo of his Universal Studios ID badge propped against a costume. “It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that my time with Universal Studios has ended.”
According to Lawrence, a supervisor and a human resources representative dismissed him after he reported what he described as a “suspected pedophile around children.” He did not provide further details about the individual or the alleged incident.
“While I will truly miss my job, I cannot be associated with an organization or people that don't care about performer or guest safety while numerous people continue to get hurt,” he wrote, adding that he would not return to the park.
In a particularly strong statement, Lawrence said, “With what I know, I will never allow my kid to go to Universal Studios Hollywood. Be safe, everyone.”
Lawrence rose to fame as Bernard “Beans” Aranguren on the Disney Channel hit Even Stevens, which ran for three seasons from 2001 to 2003 and starred Shia LaBeouf.
Support quickly followed from former co-stars. Actress Christy Carlson Romano commented on his post, writing, “Good for you Steven! 👏,” according to TMZ.
Universal Studios Hollywood has not publicly responded to Lawrence’s allegations.
