Will Trent Season 4: ABC Sets January 2026 Premiere, Cast and Story Details Revealed

Special Agent Will Trent is officially heading back to work.

ABC’s police procedural Will Trent, based on the novels by Karin Slaughter, has been renewed for a fourth season and will return early next year. The fan-favorite series debuted in January 2023 and wrapped its third season in May 2025, leaving plenty of storylines still to explore.

When Does Season 4 Premiere?

Season 4 of Will Trent will premiere on January 6, 2026, airing on ABC. New episodes will be available to stream on Hulu the day after they air.

The upcoming season will include 18 episodes, continuing the show’s established release pattern, with most seasons launching early in the year.

What the Show Is About

The series follows Will Trent, a highly observant investigator at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who solves crimes by noticing details others miss. He’s played by Ramón Rodríguez, who has praised the show for balancing emotional depth with moments of humor. Alongside intense cases, the series also highlights Will’s personal life, including his bond with his chihuahua, Betty.

Ramón Rodríguez Returns — On and Off Camera

Rodríguez will once again star in season 4 and is also expected to direct at least one episode. He previously directed the season 3 premiere and has said he enjoys the pressure of setting the tone for a new season.

Who’s Coming Back?

Most of the main cast is expected to return, including:

• Erika Christensen

• Iantha Richardson

• Jake McLaughlin

• Sonja Sohn

Gina Rodriguez, who joined in season 3 as Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba, is not officially confirmed to return, but the show’s creators have said they would welcome her back if schedules allow.

The same goes for Scott Foley, who appeared in season 3 as Dr. Seth McDale. Producers have said his return could happen if timing works out.

New Challenges Ahead

Season 4 will pick up with every major character dealing with big personal changes. One of the most important storylines will continue to explore Will’s complicated family history, especially after the introduction of his biological father, Sheriff Caleb Roussard, played by Yul Vazquez.

The showrunners have also revealed that Will will begin the new season emotionally unsettled but actively trying to heal. Therapy, self-reflection, and confronting his past will play a bigger role as he works through unresolved trauma from his childhood.

First Look at Season 4

A short teaser for season 4 was released in December 2025, offering quick glimpses of new cases, intense action, and, of course, more moments with Will and Betty.

Where to Watch

The first three seasons of Will Trent are currently streaming on Hulu. Season 4 will air weekly on ABC, with episodes available for streaming the following day.

With familiar faces returning, deeper emotional storylines, and new challenges for its lead character, Will Trent season 4 is shaping up to be one of the show’s most personal chapters yet.
