The pop star shared a pointed message on Instagram on Sunday that many fans believe was aimed directly at her relatives after they celebrated Christmas without her. While Britney didn’t name anyone outright, the post appeared to reference her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, Jamie Lynn’s husband Jamie Watson, their daughters Maddie and Ivey, her mother Lynne Spears, and even her older son Sean Preston, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
In the post, Britney used heavy sarcasm while wishing her family a “Merry late Christmas,” writing that they had “never disrespected” or “caused unbelievable trauma” — comments that clearly suggested the opposite. She added that she was “busy this Christmas” but said she would “definitely show up and surprise” them soon.
The message appeared to be sparked by a holiday family photo shared earlier in the week by Jamie Lynn, showing several members of the Spears family celebrating together. Britney was noticeably absent from the picture, which fans believe may have triggered her emotional response.
While she skipped the larger family gathering, Britney did spend Christmas with her younger son, Jayden, whom she also shares with Federline.
Britney’s strained relationship with her family has been well documented over the years, especially during her long conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears. Although that legal arrangement has ended, tensions within the family have clearly lingered.
That said, there have been signs of healing in other areas of her life. Earlier this year, Britney reunited with Jayden, sharing a sweet video of herself cheering him on as he played the piano — a moment many fans saw as a positive step forward.
For now, Britney’s holiday message makes one thing clear: while she may be rebuilding certain relationships, the wounds with parts of her family are far from healed.
