The 29-year-old actor is currently in London promoting his upcoming film Marty Supreme, which follows an ambitious ping-pong player, Marty Mauser, who will stop at nothing to become the greatest in the sport.
During an interview with the BBC, Chalamet was asked to name his five all-time great Brits. He began with Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, followed by David and Victoria Beckham. He then named Fakemink, a London rapper who recently collaborated with anonymous Liverpool drill artist EsDeeKid — an artist many fans have speculated could secretly be Chalamet himself.
For his final pick, Chalamet chose Susan Boyle.
“She dreamt bigger than all of us,” he said, unironically. “Who wasn’t moved by that?”
Chalamet was referring to Boyle’s viral 2009 Britain’s Got Talent audition, where she performed I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables. The clip became a global sensation, earning more than 10 million views in its early days and helping define the rise of viral YouTube moments.
“I remember that like it was yesterday,” Chalamet said. “That was like the advent of YouTube.”
Although Boyle, now 64, finished second on the show behind dance group Diversity, she went on to achieve massive success. She has sold more than 25 million records worldwide and made UK chart history in 2011 by becoming the first female artist to score three number one albums in less than two years.
In recent years, the Scottish singer has stepped away from the spotlight and has not released a new album since A Wonderful World in 2016. However, in May 2025, Boyle announced on Instagram that she had returned to the recording studio for the first time in six years.
Chalamet has previously been open about the artists who inspire him. While accepting his Best Actor SAG Award earlier this year for portraying Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, he spoke candidly about his ambition.
“I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I wanna be one of the greats,” he said. He named Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as his acting idols, adding that the award was “more fuel” to push him toward that goal.
Speaking again to the BBC, Chalamet expressed strong confidence in Marty Supreme, describing it as a rare original film in today’s industry.
“This is an original film at a time where a lot of original films aren’t made,” he said. “If you bring yourself to see this movie, you won’t be let down. It’s really like a slingshot.”
Marty Supreme is set to release in cinemas on Boxing Day.
