Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka to Lead France-Set Season 4 of HBO’s The White Lotus

HBO’s hit series The White Lotus is officially moving forward with its fourth season, and creator Mike White has begun assembling a fresh cast for the Emmy-winning anthology drama.

Alexander Ludwig (Vikings, Earth Abides) and AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs, Super 8) are the first two confirmed stars for Season 4, which will be set in France. The duo will headline the new installment, marking the beginning of casting announcements for the highly anticipated season.

In addition, it was previously revealed that Helena Bonham Carter is in early talks for a major role, though HBO has not yet confirmed her involvement.

As with past seasons, plot details and character descriptions are being kept tightly under wraps. HBO has only confirmed that Season 4 will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the course of one week, continuing the show’s signature mix of luxury, satire, and dark mystery.

Production is expected to begin in the spring. While the exact filming location within France has not been revealed, the country offers several high-end resorts that could stand in for the fictional White Lotus property. Previous seasons used Four Seasons resorts, with potential French options including the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat and Paris’ Hotel George V. However, HBO currently does not have a marketing agreement with Four Seasons for Season 4.

Last month, HBO and HBO Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that casting had officially begun for the next chapter of the murder mystery anthology series.

Mike White has earned praise for assembling a strong mix of established stars and rising talent across the show’s first three seasons. Season 3, set in Thailand, featured an ensemble cast including Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Sam Rockwell, Natasha Rothwell, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Sam Nivola, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Season 3 received 23 Emmy nominations, including eight acting nods. Overall, The White Lotus has earned 66 Emmy nominations and won 16 awards since its debut.

Season 4 is created, written, and directed by Mike White, who also serves as executive producer alongside David Bernad and Mark Kamine.
