Taylor Momsen Tries on Her Cindy Lou Who Costume 25 Years Later — and It (Almost) Still Fits

Taylor Momsen just took a very festive trip down memory lane.

The 32-year-old rocker surprised fans by digging out her original Cindy Lou Who costume from How the Grinch Stole Christmas — and somehow squeezing into it a full 25 years after the movie was released.

Momsen shared a video on Instagram showing herself trying on the red-and-green plaid dress she wore as a child in the 2000 holiday classic. At the time of filming, she was only six years old, starring alongside Jim Carrey as the Grinch.

“Yes…that is my real Cindy costume from the Grinch movie 25 years later,” Momsen wrote in the caption. “It still (kind of) fits. What a surreal holiday season.”

In the video, the Pretty Reckless frontwoman models the frilly outfit during a photo shoot for her newly re-recorded version of “Where Are You Christmas?” The dress, complete with decorative plates of Christmas cookies sewn onto the skirt, clearly struggled to keep up with Momsen’s grown-up frame.

At one point, her stylist helps pull the kid-sized sleeves over her arms as Momsen laughs and admits they might not make it past her biceps. “You’re too jacked,” someone jokes from off-camera.

Momsen has spoken openly about her muscular build, previously telling Page Six that boxing and daily workouts are the secret behind her toned physique. “I work out a lot,” she said. “I try to do something every day.”

Eventually, the singer restyles the outfit for the shoot, wearing it off the shoulders and later turning it into a strapless dress, paired with Cindy Lou Who’s signature red-and-white fur-trimmed cape.

These days, Momsen seems to be fully embracing her Grinch-era fame — something she once had complicated feelings about. In October, she released a rock version of “Where Are You Christmas?” as part of a holiday EP with her band The Pretty Reckless.

She also reunited with Carrey in November for the first time since filming the movie. The two crossed paths at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Momsen performed with Soundgarden and Carrey introduced the band.

But her relationship with the film wasn’t always so joyful. In 2023, Momsen revealed on the Podcrushed podcast, hosted by her former Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley, that she was bullied after the movie came out.

“‘The Grinch’ changed my life in a multitude of ways,” she said. “One of them being I was made fun of relentlessly.”

She explained that kids often didn’t even use her real name. “I was just ‘Grinch girl,’” she recalled.

Now, decades later, Momsen appears to be reclaiming that chapter of her life — on her own terms, muscles and all.
