Nick Reiner Placed on Suicide Watch as New Details Emerge About His Jail Status

New details have emerged about Nick Reiner’s condition while in custody following his arrest in connection with the deaths of his parents.

Reiner, 32, was arrested on December 13 and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

According to a police source, Reiner has been placed on suicide watch and is being held in solitary confinement. He is required to wear a suicide prevention smock at all times. While on suicide watch, a supervisor checks on him every 15 minutes to ensure his safety.

The source said Reiner is struggling with mental health concerns but has not attempted to harm himself. He remains alone in his cell and communicates very little.

When Reiner arrived at the jail on December 15, mental health staff evaluated him and determined he was at risk. Medical personnel later diagnosed him with a mental disability, which led to the decision to place him on suicide watch. He will remain under close supervision until a doctor clears him, a process that could take a significant amount of time depending on his condition.

Reiner previously spoke publicly about his struggles with addiction and co-wrote a film inspired by his experience. His mental health history is now a key factor in how he is being monitored while in custody.

He missed a scheduled court appearance earlier this week due to a lack of medical clearance. However, he appeared in court the following day after being evaluated and cleared by medical staff. According to the source, this clearance means he was considered mentally stable enough to attend the hearing.

At this time, Reiner does not have phone privileges and is not allowed to receive visitors. He has no contact with anyone other than his lawyers and jail personnel. Authorities say these restrictions are in place to protect the integrity of the high-profile case.

The source also noted that Reiner was processed unusually quickly when he arrived at the jail. While the intake process typically takes about 24 hours, his was completed in less than four hours due to the high-profile nature of the case.

Reiner’s arraignment is scheduled for January 7, 2026.
