Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Nick is currently on suicide watch and held in administrative segregation at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He is being held without bail following his arrest.
The development comes as new details emerge about the events leading up to the tragic deaths. Sources say that just hours before Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead, Nick was involved in a “very loud argument” with his father at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday night. The shouting match was reportedly loud enough for many guests to notice. After the argument, Rob and Michele left the party. It remains unclear whether Nick left with them.
A source also claimed that Nick appeared out of place at the gathering, largely keeping to himself throughout the evening.
Friends of the family revealed that Michele Reiner had been deeply distressed in recent months over Nick’s struggles. She reportedly confided that she and Rob were at their “wits’ end” trying to help their son, who was dealing with mental illness and alleged substance abuse issues. According to one source, Michele told friends, “We’ve tried everything.”
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found dead inside their Los Angeles-area home on Sunday. Authorities said both victims had their throats slit. Nick Reiner was arrested Monday morning and booked on suspicion of murder.
