Early Life and Hollywood Roots
Reiner was born in 1947 in the Bronx, New York, to legendary comedian Carl Reiner and actress-singer Estelle Lebost. His family moved to Beverly Hills when he was 12. He attended Beverly Hills High School, alongside future stars Richard Dreyfuss and Albert Brooks, before studying film at UCLA.

Marriage to Penny Marshall and Personal Life
Reiner married actress and director Penny Marshall in 1971. The couple were dubbed “Hollywood’s Hapsburgs” due to their deep family ties to the entertainment industry. Reiner adopted Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, and the two remained close even after their divorce in 1981. They stayed on good terms until Marshall’s death in 2018.
Reiner later married Michele Singer in 1989, whom he met during the making of When Harry Met Sally.... Their relationship influenced the film’s famous happy ending.
A Familiar Face On and Off Screen
In addition to directing, Reiner appeared as an actor in films such as The First Wives Club, Postcards From the Edge, and The Wolf of Wall Street. On television, he made memorable appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, The Simpsons, New Girl, and The Larry Sanders Show.
