Set deep in the harsh and isolated Australian wilderness, Apex follows a grieving woman named Sasha who retreats into nature seeking peace. Instead, she finds herself trapped in a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a predator who has made her his next target. The first trailer makes it clear this is no ordinary chase, with an eerie voiceover telling Sasha she’s “special” before urging her to run for her life.
The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for intense survival stories, and written by Jeremy Robbins. Eric Bana also stars in the movie, adding more weight to the cast.
Theron recently spoke about the physically demanding shoot while appearing at Netflix’s 2025 upfront presentation. She joked that she was still recovering from filming, revealing she suffered a fractured toe on set and hid it under a boot to keep working.
Despite the injury, Theron described Apex as one of the most incredible experiences of her career. She praised the remote Australian locations, saying the team filmed in stunning rivers and truly isolated areas, far from civilization. According to Theron, the role pushed her even further physically than her previous action work, including her performance in The Old Guard 2.
She also admitted she performed stunts and action scenes almost without realizing how intense they were at the time, adding that Apex gave her a chance to outdo herself once again.
Apex premieres globally on Netflix on April 24, promising a tense, high-stakes survival story with Theron fighting not just a killer, but the unforgiving wild itself.
