Shia LaBeouf Arrested Again in New Orleans Amid Expanding Battery Case

Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested again in New Orleans as his legal troubles connected to a Mardi Gras incident continue to grow.

According to online jail records, LaBeouf was taken into custody just after 1:30 p.m. local time Saturday on a new battery charge. The arrest comes days after a judge issued a new warrant tied to the February 17 altercation in the French Quarter.

What Happened

LaBeouf was first arrested during Mardi Gras celebrations and charged with two counts of simple battery. Police allege the actor became aggressive outside the Royal Street Inn & R Bar after being asked to leave.

Authorities say he punched a bar manager and a local entertainer, identified as Jeffrey Damnit. The police report also states that LaBeouf repeatedly used homophobic slurs during the confrontation.

He was initially released on his own recognizance, meaning he did not have to post bond. However, during a later court hearing, Judge Simone Levine criticized his behavior and set bail at $100,000. The judge also ordered him to undergo drug testing and enroll in a substance abuse treatment program.

On February 28, a new warrant was issued for a third count of battery involving another alleged victim from the same incident. LaBeouf voluntarily turned himself in and was later released after posting additional bond.

His next court date is scheduled for March 19, 2026. A request to travel to Rome for religious observances was denied.

Court Concerns

During a February 26 hearing, Judge Levine expressed concern about LaBeouf’s history with alcohol. She stated that he does not appear to take his addiction seriously and questioned whether he can control his behavior while drinking.

LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, argued that being intoxicated during Mardi Gras is not a crime. She also noted that a courthouse drug test did not show illegal substances in his system. However, the judge maintained that his behavior while intoxicated poses a risk to the community.

A History of Legal and Personal Struggles

LaBeouf has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which he has linked to childhood trauma.

His past arrests include:

• 2014, New York City: Arrested for disorderly conduct during a Broadway performance. He later sought treatment, calling the incident a symptom of a larger health issue.

• 2017, Georgia: Arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Body camera footage showed him making racist and homophobic remarks. He later entered court-ordered rehab and was diagnosed with PTSD.

In 2022, LaBeouf said he had achieved more than 600 days of sobriety. He has credited fellow actors Mel Gibson and Sean Penn for supporting his recovery.

Following his most recent arrest, LaBeouf posted a video describing his behavior as “dirty, ugly, [and] disgusting.” He claimed he had been sober for a year prior to the birth of his daughter, Isabel.

What’s Next

The case remains ongoing, with three battery charges now connected to the February 17 incident. LaBeouf must comply with court-ordered substance abuse treatment and weekly drug and alcohol testing as he awaits his next court appearance later this month.

If convicted, he could face fines, probation, or jail time, depending on the outcome of the proceedings.
